DSR1031 KVM Switch |
DSR KVM over IP switch with Virtual Media capability provides convenient, remote access to multiple devices in branch offices.
The 8-port one digital path DSR®1031 KVM over IP switch provides BIOS-level control of all connected servers and serial-based devices, giving you greater access to branch office devices. The switch is specifically designed for you to easily troubleshoot, reboot or even power cycle servers or serial devices in branch offices, avoiding the need for costly on-site service calls.
The DSR1031 switch also includes a USB port for easy access to network devices and external modem support when the network is down. The switch also includes high-resolution video with the Dambrackas Video Compression® algorithm. The DSR1031 switch features an on-board Web interface for access and control of your servers over IP.
DSR KVM over IP switches are IPv6 network compatible. Virtual Media lets you remotely authenticate using Smart Card/CAC readers, load software for file transfers, application and OS patches, and diagnostic testing.
DSView 3 management software gives you a secure method to access and control your servers and network devices from a single interface. Its hub and spoke architecture provides failover access authentication. Users authenticate to a central management server (the hub) or one of 15 mirror servers (the spokes). SNMP and IPMI support are also provided.

 FAQs
Question |
Answer |
| Equipment |
| I have computers at multiple sites. How do I use the Avocent DSR switch to provide access? |
The DSR® switch can be deployed wherever computers or servers are located. It connects to your network. Your technicians and administrators can access the attached devices directly from their desk. |
| Can the DSR switch provide access to other devices? |
The DS Series appliances have a wide variety of connection adaptors. Use the VT100 serial adaptor to access routers, DSU or other networking devices. |
| How do I get access if my network connection to a site is down? |
The DSR switch has a port that can be connected to a modem. This provides access to the site when the IP connection is not working. By connecting the router or DSU to the DSR switch, you can diagnose WAN or server problems. |
| Operation |
| I use remote control software to manage my remote locations. How is this different? |
The DSR switch connects to the keyboard, video and mouse port of the computer. Unlike remote control software, the DS Series products do not require a functioning operating system, network stack, or application to be running to access the computer. By connecting externally, a CTRL-ALT-DEL command can be sent to reboot the computer. During the boot up, the BIOS can be accessed or the boot can be single stepped in order to troubleshoot boot problems. Remote control software cannot give boot level access. |
| Sometimes I need to cycle power to a device to reset it. How do I cycle power remotely? |
The DSR1031 switch has two dedicated power control ports built into the appliance. By connecting this port to an Avocent SPC power control device, you can remotely check power starts and cycle power. This eliminates having to call someone at the location to explain which power switch they need to cycle. |
| Performance |
| Depending on my site, my link speeds can be different. How does the DSR1031 switch handle different speeds? |
The DSR switch uses the Avocent Dambrackas Video Compression® (DVC) algorithm. It provides selections to reduce the number of colors, including a gray scale selection, to operate over a variety of link speeds, including speeds of a dial modem. |
